Dhanvantari havan is done by those who are suffering from health conditions or those who expect good health throughout their life. Lord Dhanvantari is a form of Lord Vishnu and is God of Ayurveda. Those who practice Ayurveda also perform this havan. 

It is believed that Lord Dhanvantari appeared during the Samudra Manthan with nectar in order to restore human beings. In this havan the pandit chants the mantras of Dhanvantari moola, Dhanvantari Gayathri and purusha suktam. There are 108 types of Ayurvedic herbs offered in the havan while chanting these mantras. The tithi for this havan is decided on the Janma Nakshatra of the person who is conducting the havan.
